We will be camping at the Deschutes mouth this weekend and trolling the Columbia for steelhead. Does anyone have a report from there and what plugs, etc. are working best this year?
We will report our sucess(or.....)
Thanx
I fished the mouth Tuesday and Wednesday; fish rolling everywhere. The bite was definately off. We saw 6 fish caught on Tuesday and 3 on Wednesday (mostly guide boats) - all natives. Green body / black stripe Wiggle Warts took the majority (every guide boat rod we saw had some version of the 'green Wiggle Wart'). There was talk (and there always is) of others 'on' and 'you should have been here two weeks ago' and 'we're in between the 'A' run and 'B' run. Wind pushed most boats off the river around 2 pm each day. Someone mentioned the Deschutes mouth measured out at 61 or 62 degrees; the Columbia at 71 degrees. Talked with two guides working the Deschutes who mentioned that since last week it's been tough just to get one fish and those have been natives. Maybe this cloud cover will help...Good Luck!

We floated the upper Deschutes last weekend , water temp was 64 degrees , thats warm .. 2 days of fishing with 2 boats and 6 guys we hooked 6 fish , not GOOD . all nates .. Heard of a few being caught at the mouth of the Klick .. was going to try today but looks like the the wind is going to BLOW !!!
Fished the Columbia at the mouth of the Deschutes both Sat and Sun. We were off the water before 10am both days due to the wind. Saw only about 6 or less caught each day with only 30 boats fishing. Rainbow wiggle wart seemed to be the best plug if you could call it that.
