I spent a few years of my missent youth living in Seaside, the best I ever did off of the 12th Street bridge was jigging for herring and anchovies, the local sporting goods shop keeper would trade me a half a bucket of fish for a new jigging outfit, I have talked lately to a few locals who fish there they say the bar between the river and the ocean has to wash out ie. heavy rain/high water also unless things changed have a crab ring rigged to land your tired salmon, make sure that you have enough rope...lastly herring suspended under a beer can float with a 1 oz. mooching lead and bobber stop...Just have to be there when they make the push thru....Steve

For a variance of Steve's float/herring method, try a heavier 3 or 4 oz. cresent sinker and a plugcut herring with the bobber stop set to have the bait near bottom. If there aren't other anglers in the way, walk very slowly back and forth across the bridge. This will give your plugcut a slow trolling action and the heavier weight should keep it deep enough. You can also cast it way down current and very slowly retrieve it (if the herring doesn't fly off the hook). This might be best on the latter part of the incoming and thru high tide. I haven't worked this hole but have watched people fish it and I would think many tidewater methods, such as bobber/eggs & shrimp and casting/retrieving spinners, will work too. And thru low tide too if it's a deeper area under the bridge. - RT
