Yesterday, had the pleasure to fish with Bill (Slutgoddess) at the mouth of the Cowlitz. We left Kalama boatramp at about 7:30 am arriving at the mouth of the Cowlitz around 8 am. The tide was due to change around 10 or so. Many boats had staked out their spot in the line they wanted and had either floated back with the current, had a second anchor to keep them from going up river, or had their kicker on to keep the boat from swinging with the still incoming current.
We saw a number a steelhead and some nooks for those in the right place.
After moving several times and finally, about 5pm, when we were just getting ready to pull anchor for the final time, my rod went down.

Now I could probable say, it went down violently, but it didn't--It was a tap tap then a bend. I could say the fish was over 40, but it wasn't, it was closer to 4. I could say we netted it, but I can't as my new partner had introduced me to a new netting technique for fish.

This technique is somewhat similar to the ones I've seen on the National Geographic special, you know the one, on how to net BUTTERFLIES..

This is where, with one hand, and a somewhat clueless attempt, the one where you are looking skyward while you are swatting at a target below you.

you partial have your target balanced half in and half out of the net, you lift the net in the air, hoping the fish falls to the center of the net. You can guess the rest.
Anyway the best part is after the catch is safely released in the water, your partner tell the next boat over, that "it's ok, he has the right to WHINE"...
Now I won't mention who needs the netting lesson, but if any of you out there know where a person can be enrolled in a "remedial netting class" send your cards and letters in care of SLUTGODDESS.
Overall we had a great day getting to know each other, exchanging stories, looking at the new tech in Bills boat. I just wish ZaQ and Rt could have been there to witness the fun and record it for the board's enjoyment.
I would hope others would share stories of their trip when giving fishing updates...
