From all that I have heard, the Cowlitz is an exception to the general downturn in the previous good bite going on almost everywhere. I think that's because of it's size and ability to hold off warmer temperatures better than the smaller tributaries, as well as maintain a good flow rate. This holds true off the mouth where fish are likely to hang out as the Columbia was already around 70 degrees by late July! I'm hoping Aug. temps don't climb any higher or the excellant runs of fall fish will be tough to get to bite on the Col. & elsewhere. Off the mouth of the Deschutes will be another good area to fish, but it will probably be like the crowds fishing springers off the mouth of the Wind was. - RT

HI: I fished the Colwitz at the mouth yesterday. There were many, many boats. The lot was full at Gearhearts. We did not get there until 10 and heard there was a bite at the morning tide change and we saw few on during the running tide. We saw 5 or 6 hooked near the end of the tide.

We saw several chinooks caught during the middle of the tide.

The best is yet to come.
