Default Buoy 10

I have a friend who was out to buoy 10 yesterday. They limited out by noon. Two chinook, the rest Coho. He also saw many other boats with limits. I will be going out Sunday and post the results.

Sounds like a great kickoff to a great season. Some confusion? I know the ocean was closed to non-finclipped coho, is buoy 10 under the same regulation? I know I read a supplement that didn't mention anything about it being unlawful to keep wild fish in this zone, but it made mention that all non-finclipped coho above the dams had to be released unharmed. Don't want to break any laws!

My understanding is that Coho must be fin-clipped to keep, even at Buoy 10. Let me know if that is wrong.

I was plunking for steelhead off one of the local beaches today and was talking to the another fisherman about only being able to retain fin-clipped coho. He said that this wasn't true and he pulled out a pink ODFW supplement to the fishing regulations that was dated april 2000. I read this with him and the only two zones it made mention of fin-clipped only retention was the ocean and a couple of the upper river dam pools. I told him that I'm sure I read something somewhere on this being the case? I love how every year I continue to be confused more and more when the regulations are issued. I'm amazed I haven't been fined for a violation yet. I'll check out the ODFW website to see if I'm uninformed.

The ODFW website states that only adipose coho may be kept from buoy 10 to the Oregon/Washington line above Mcnary dam. I swear that april phamplet said something completly different.

The salmon colored pamphlet for the 2000 ocean regulations is a supplement form. The Columbia River permanent regulations which the pamphlet says to follow on page 3 are located on page 82 of the state regulations synopsis. For the most part, B-10 and the Ocean have concurrent regulations due to their close proximaty.

No problem, but if you read my original post, you would realize that I was trying to set a fellow fisherman straight. Don't know how true this statement is but I heard that less then 60% of released hatchery born coho were even finclipped due to budget constraints. I've also been told that less then 1% of remaining "wild stock" are of pure genetic code, the rest have been "polluted" with hatchery stock. I do agree that we should protect the remaining stock and I'm a very law abiding citizen and never break any game laws.

Attaboy tshickam, hang in there! We need more law abiding sportsmen to help protect what fishing freedoms we have left. Good thinking also ZaQ! If everyone followed this advise it would help. Thanks, guys
