Default Decoy/Game cart wheels

In the past people on the board have talked of building decoy carts. I happened across a pair of extra wide wheels for carts and thought I would share.

Hey thats what we're here for, right!

They are designed to help the carts in sand, snow, and muddy conditions. They run about $45 a piece with stainless bearings for a 5/8ths axle. The manufacturer isnt a sponsor and they are a specialty product so if you are interested PM me and I will give you the contact info for the salesman to deal with.

Since pictures speak a thousand words, here they are.

Having bean on the board a while I know that anything in a pic will be scrutinized to all heck. Please note the bland backgrounds and use of a soda can for size reference.

What's the load rating on each tire?

I dont have a specific load rating. The wide tires are a solid rubber type compound so the rating would most likely be based on the rim. I have another pair of standard tube type wheels(in pics) that have the same rim and have put 500# give or take on the cart(two wheels) with no problems. Another benifit to the composites are that both wheels weigh considerably less than just one of the original solid rubber tires on a steel spoked rim.

I came across these looking for replacements to my original equipment wheels. Seems the bearings in the OEM wheels are not capable of handling speeds over walking speed. My cart bearings failed while pulling the cart 2 miles empty to an elk at about 10 mph. To the credit of the manufacturer of my cart (pacific cycle) they were more than willing to replace the wheels even though I had voided the warranty by pulling it other than by hand. I declined as they informed me that thier wheels would not work under the conditions I planned to use the cart.

You better post a pic with todays news paper next to the wheels to prove that you really caught them today!

That's funny.

Are they available in bigger diameters?

I think those would work great for decoy carts but bigger diameter wheels go up ramps better.

Even if not, those are good. Thanks for sharing.

As far as I know they only offer them in a 14" and 19" version. 19" should be plenty big for most uses.

GunRodBow, The ones pictured are the 19".

BrotherWolf, I didnt try tilting it up on one wheel to test side load handling. I will say that they have a little flex to them that should help them survive side loads. Also they look like they will servive the stick in the spokes that happen in clearcuts.

On a side note: I dont intend to use the whide wheels for hauling game. I bought a pair of tube tires on the same rims for that. I am going to use the wide ones for hauling decoys.
