Great Night for Oregon Small Ball!!!
I know there's gotta be Ifishers who follow 1A basketball. My son's team won tonight by two points over Ione in the first round of the state playoffs (pre-state, I guess they call it now). This will be the first year ever that both the Damscus Christian boys and girls teams will be in Baker City for the Oregon State 1A playoffs.
The rest of the field:
Umpqua Valley Christian
Spray
Crow
South Wasco County
Days Creek
Condon/Wheeler
Mohawk
And DCS rounds out this year's elite 8! GO EAGLES!!!

Re: Great Night for Oregon Small Ball!!!
hey, skeetrboy - thanks! and if your on that other forum - send me a PM with your moniker you use there. What school? (by PM if you wish). the bummer thing about it is that I can't go the Baker City - my wife will be there, but I won't get to go. I'll have to listen to the internest broadcast. :depressed: :depressed: :depressed: :depressed: :depressed: :depressed: :depressed: :depressed:

The energy in Baker City for the 1a playoffs is incredible. I went when I was in High School, and it is one of my fonder high school memories...good luck to your son.

Re: Great Night for Oregon Small Ball!!!
I myself am debating whether to head over to Pendleton later this week to cheer on Portland Christian (2A). I coached ball up there last year and my buddy coaches the varsity team. If I don't go I too will be stuck in front of the computer listening to the internet broadcasts.

Re: Great Night for Oregon Small Ball!!!
Holy smokes!!! I just learned that one of the teams, Mohawk, got DQ'd from the state tourney! They self-reported that they had too many players dressed down during the prospect game, which they won in order to go to Baker City. I guess Mohawk is appealing to the OSAA board this afternoon to try to get back on the bracket. I feel bad for those kids and that coach right now.

Chromaflage,
I played for Umpqua Valley Christian from 90-93, we took third in state in 92. I will be following up on the games. Good luck to your boys team.

Re: Great Night for Oregon Small Ball!!!
Thanks!!! We just got confirmation - Mohawk is out due to a Coach's dumb mistake. Everyone was predicting a shootout between Mohawk and Spray for the championship. I don't know why OSAA didn't just fine the school and ban the coach from the games. Now, the Mohawk kids have to pay - and to think of the Prospect kids who got bumped into the tournament because of it. What a mess!

Re: Great Night for Oregon Small Ball!!!
I guess the silver lining is that DCS has a tremendous chance of playing in the finals on Saturday. Mohawk would have been tough, but DCS has been playing well enough to pull it off. Hopefully DCS will dominate and leave no doubt.
On another note, I think Ione was extremely under rated. They were a solid team with a lot of talent. DCS held their own against them though and came back from 8 points down in the 4th to win. Some say that game may well have been the state championship game. But, DCS still has to show up and put the ball in the hoop this week.
GO EAGLES!
