Default Where to hunt Elk in Montana

I am planning on getting drawn for MT.

I have hunted deer there plenty of times. I am looking for a great place for me and my hunting partner to pack in for elk.

Any suggestions would be great.

I did quite a bit of research last year. The Montana game Bio turned me on to the Missouri River Breaks and Area 1. I didn't hunt either but that's what he recommended.

PM me with a phone # if you want to discuss.

Good luck in the draw!

I grew up close to the Missouri River Breaks but haven't hunted it in years (Ok, decades). Where to go depends on when you're going and what you mean by "pack in". It's a month long season and if you go early your options are much more open. Places to look at are the Missouri River Breaks (which used to be hard to get). Very open country hunting. Other areas for a pack in are the Bob Marshall Wilderness or Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness.

You'll have fun wherever you decide, and good luck in the draw.

Go where the wolves aren't. The Breaks, or the northern end of the Bob Marshall would be where I would focus. The wolves are present in the bob but haven't hammered them like the southern area of the state.
