Default MySQL

One of the hazards of the internet age is that as new words/slang appears, people read it rather than hear it, thus mispronunciation.

When I first heard MySQL, many years ago I auto pronounced it My Sequel.

It is actually, as I learned a bit later, 'My Ess Que Ell'.

Not that anyone cares. I just find it interesting.

So, you and I both probably don't understand what it DOES (!!!) but just out of curiosity....

Jennie I use SQL heavily in my work. A different version (Microsoft SQL) but still SQL none the less. We(my coworkers, and myself) almost always pronounce it Sequel. And i'm working with guys that have been doing it for 20 years. I've been in the business for 7....

pnw- In inglish, MySQL is the type of database that ifish uses to keeps track of all of the posts here on ifish. Something has to store everyone's comments, otherwise they'd just dissapear after you posted them. I'm sure it keeps track of many other things for Ifish, for instance, User Names and Passwords, How many posts you've made, when you signed up, sponsors ads, and so on. Just one big data store.

SQL is typically pronounced "sequel."

SELECT * from Pronunciation
WHERE Geek_Acronym = 'SQL'

I guess I say Es Cue Ell when referring to the language, but sequel when referring to products - SQL Server, etc.

Bottom_line = 'Whatever!'

I learned something today that I have heard a lot about concerning the capabilities of my Mac. Did you know that every Mac OSX computer shipped out comes with the Apache web server?
