Marty, I have some good things to say about your upcoming Tote Boat. First, more than half of them float. If you can get them to stay unfolded! Secondly, if you get one of the many that don't float they usually sink fast enough that you won't have far to swim back to the bank. Now assuming that yours will be one that does float, remember to stay seated exactly in the deadcenter of the boat. Reach slowly and carefully when you pick up your rod. If you lean more than a couple inches off center the boat will flip clean upside down faster than you can flip your bail. Don't set the hook if the fish is even slightly off to the side. Just hold your rod straight up and carefully yank down on the line above the reel. If it's a big one quickly cut your line! Some additional pointers: after you find enough people to get the thing unfolded and fastened in the open position, put in a couple 1" thick wooden doles, about a 1/4" wider than the inner gunwales, jammed in from side to side to help keep it unfolded. I have seen one poor guy out in the center of the Willamette R., carefully balancing himself in the center of one while gently paddling, suddenly have his T-Boat snap up folded around him and quickly sink! It looked like a huge apple turnover that had been dropped into some water, only this one had a hat floating above it with some bubbles popping up. Wear a wetsuit and a good lifejacket. Minor things Marty. These boats are very easy to store in their prefered folded position, taking up very little room. Have fun out there! - RT - EDIT: I was informed that without smilie faces some might not know I'm kidding around with Marty in this post. SO

Hey Marty. Go back and re-enter your order. I was only kidding! I looked into buying one a few years ago to take along when towing my parent's trailer to camp at lakes or rivers, but decided I wouldn't have opportunity to use it often enough. They have a great idea that they executed well. I recently saw one with 2 people in it with a real small gas OB on it; I think it was on Lake Washington while fishing for socks. They were cruising along just fine. Let us know how it works out. WEAR A LIFEJACKET. - Steve - EDIT! The boat in your posted pic isn't the one I envisioned! I thought it was the fiberglass one that folds flat lengthwise, looking kinda like a giant taco. They used to advertise in STS magazine as the Tote Boat. The one pictured above looks like a serious river boat. Now you can row along when we cat the outer Pen?

Looks like I will have to use the little boat for our peninsula journeys. I have a buyer lined up for my puma . That thing is awsome. I already bought this one on ebay. too late . This one is suppose to be able to make into a backpack which will be great for mountain lakes. Its made of hypalon sp? I first saw them advertised in sts but they wanted both arms for one. Only gave a hand for this one lucky me

Marty,

That's one well-outfitted Tote-N-Float! I had my first experience in one of those on the Wind river about a month ago. I floated the upper Wind down to the entrance to the canyon in Nick Amato's Tote-N-Float, but his were pretty bare-bones. I must say I was quite nervous heading into the first whitewater section we came to. But, lo-and-behold, those things just glide right through (although I did get a nice face-full of water when I hit a standing wave). They really go through rough water pretty well. Just make sure you have a good foot rest since you must resist the temptation to dangle your feet when you're in fast, shallow water. We used them mostly to get from one bank-fishing spot to the next, as they were a little difficult to fish from. The nice thing about them is you can get through slots that are too narrow for most other crafts to get through.

Nick warned me not to lift the front of the T-N-F and drag the rear across the rocks, because sharp-edged rocks can let the air out of a fishing trip if the rear is loaded down with gear.

Now, get out there and put that thing to use. I'll be waiting to hear from you r.e. what you think of them.

Hi Joe. Now that I hear that, may be. I'll look thru some STS' to see if I can find the ad. I still kinda think they were called Tote Boat though. Or maybe it's that I shutter anytime I hear someting that starts with porta ...sorta... you recall that story. EDIT: It is called the Porta Boat Joe. Thanks.

Marty,

Running lights....? Now THAT'S a loaded machine. You got a solar-powered refrigerator on that thing too? Well, if I see some guy boondogging down the Nooch in the wee hours of the night, I'll just figure it's got to be you and your loaded Tote-N-Float !!
