Default Clamming

Anyone know if clamming for razors is closed north of Tillamook? If true where is a good alternative spot? Wouldn't mind a shot at a limit of steamers. YEAH, i'm a rookie....

Call the Garibaldi Marina or Lyster's Tackle for info. Or ODFW. Also, check out the razor clam season regs from the WDFW for the Long Beach Peninsula. It's a hot spot for them at times.

Phuny
I only know the North beaches and they are closed for clamming North of Tillamook. Too bad since the tides are good this weekend.

Hey Phunybonz, you could come up to Alaska and clam the local beaches. The limit is 45 a day, and the average size is about 5-7 inches!!! It takes about 45 minutes to dig a limit, that is if you use a shovel. What I do is just grab them by the neck and pull, it is that easy. RW

Thanks for such good specifics Slider. Great when we can help each other out like that! - OK RW, you forgot to tell them that the mesquitoes and almost daily rain drops on the K Pen also average 5" to 7" too! - RT

Razor clamming North of Tillamook Head is closed from July 15th through September 30th. This is the time that the razor clams spawn. The closure is to protect them while they spawn. The area south of Tillamook head is open from what I could find in the regulations. Might want to check with the ODFW marine region office in Newport for closures, especially if they are for toxin reasons!

Washington clamming seasons are set by days and are available on their website www.wa.gov/wdfw/ . There are no openers posted at this time.
