Default Tulalip vs. Defiance

I am looking for my best shot at a hookup this weekend. Anyone have any area suggestions for a guy without downriggers? Also anyone had outstanding luck at Tulalip or Defiance yet? Thanks –

Hi Badcat. I have heard several reports of those areas, some on here and some on other BB's that there has been pretty good action for early in the season. But not hot yet. I fished the Lk. Wash. socks with a buddy and we broke off 1 of the 2 downrigger balls, so I fished with about a 12 oz. sliding sinker (cresent banana sinkers work well too) and put out 50 pulls to fish around 75 ft. deep. Hooked fish that way so you certainly can hook Kings in the sound that way. You'll just have to try to judge the depth your herring is at and make adjustments until you hook into them. Good luck. - RT

badcat,

Without riggers, you'll have an easier time of it fishing the Tulalip bubble. You could get Kings at Pt. D without riggers, but only in the first hour or so of daylight. After that, the nooks go deep and you really need downriggers to get that deep, unless you're a moocher. The Tulalip bubble fishery can be tremendous. The new STS mag has an article on it if you're looking for some insight.
