Default Need Nehalem bay help

Headed for Nehalem Bay Saturday to troll some herring. I believe the incoming tide is typically better fishing (??). If this is true is it typically better at the early part or the late part of the incoming tide? Low tide is about 7 AM and high tide is about 1 PM on Saturday. Having never fished the Nehalem bay I assume this early fishing is usually done near the bar close to Jetty Fisheries? Any help would be appreciated.

Howdy Bait....

Check out these past threads for Nehalem info- Nehalem Bay Nooks on 07-24-00, and Nehalem Bay / River Salmon on 05-01-00. Most of what you need to know.

Good luck ont the bay, we are off to Pendleton this weekend for a swim meet or I would see you down there!

Bait O'Eggs,
The low slack tide in the morning should give you a good shot at a fish in the deep slot between Wheeler Marina and Carrs dock( 200 yards down river)or in front of Nehalem. There's been fish caught from Nehalem all the way out to the jetty.First hour of daylight, low slack water, and the last two hours of incoming tide are your best bets.

Pay special attention to the phrase "first hour of daylight" in Dennis's post. Without a doubt, this is when the vast majority of the fish are caught, at least every time I've been there. Some days, I've seen 15+ fish in the first hour, and NONE the rest of the day. Never been fishing in an area where the bite was so confined to one time of the day!!!

Fished Nehalem bay today. It was to say the least sssssslllllllooooooowwwwwwwwww. I did see 3 fish caught the last hour before high tide near the bar. I talked to several other boats (lots) and only heard of two others. Easily over 100 boats from nehalem to the ocean. Seaweed was terrible, clean the hook every 15 minutes, and the minus tide made for a lot of current.

Zaq, the tide table on www.fishinginoregon.com is easily adjusted for many places on the coast.

Did watch a nice 5 point bull elk walking on the beach near the boat ramp on the ocean side of the bay.

Stopped at Tillamook bay on the way home for a couple hours and caught 7 greenling.

Took my buddy fishing today, and he did pick up 2 crabs while trolling herring. He just wouldn't believe me when I told him he was dragging on the bottom. Must be time for a new fishing partner. When the crabs are getting your herring and you dont know it, something is wrong.

I've been using the tide tables at http://www.harbortides.com. I like it. You have to register to get monthly tables. I'm still washing the skunk off from my last two Nehalem trips, but the crabs were tasty.
