Default Lightline For Summers

I read a post on Bob's where one guy claims great success on clear water summer steelhead by using 3 lb. leaders with small baits. Another good fishermen responded that he catches just as many with 6 lb. leader in those low conditions. I'm a pretty good steelheader and do well with 5 or 6 lb. lines. I just wonder if I'd hook up more going lighter? What have you guys experienced with these factors? How long of leader for drifting or floatfishing like this is best? Thank you!

Hammerhead
I use 6# test for Summers and occasionally drop down to 4# when using flies. I haven't felt the need to go lighter then 4# test.
