One of the most important things to understanding fish behavior is missed by people because we see everything in daylight... our visual light spectrum. Fish are awake while we sleep, they feed while we sleep and are in tune with the bioluminescence and flourescence of there own enviroment not ours. When a stream colors up fish will use there senses they have developed for their "night vision".
Bioluminescence is a chemical reaction that produces light from a living creature. A fire fly that makes it own light is a example of such a creature. The ocean is filled with Bioluminescence creatures. The fish can key in on other species when they see the "night lights". These lights are produce by disturbing other creatures or by the creature themselves.
Fluorescence is the name for the absorption of light at one wavelength and its re-emission at another wavelength. Depending on the evironmental effects light wavelengths are filtered and the others are reflected back.
On a depth study of which colors show up when placed at different depths....guess what color shows up at the greatest depth. Thats right fluorescence and our own man made bioluminescence (glow in dark). Using this knowledge you should be able to improve your fishing strategies in colored waters. Or even night fishing trips
