Default Pacific City

My father and I went on a dory fishing trip this past saturday with Haystack Fishing Charters out of Pacific City. We launched at 5:15am, and had eight coho in the boat by 7:30am. Very hot bite! We had two doubles, with fish up to around 10 lbs. We got one pig that I estimate around 11-12lbs. The guide service was very professional, and the dory ride was a blast. For those who are unfamiliar with dories, they are flat-bottomed wooden boats that people launch from the beach. The best part was coming into the beach at 20 mph, and skidding across the sand. I will definately be doing this again next year.

I've thought about trying that on a calmer day with my 18' flatbottom aluminum sled. Has anybody tried that? How much does the front end of a lighter flat boat come up? I've already tried one jetsled "wheelstand" that left me sitting there stunned with spinners hanging off the front of my cap , and I'm not eager to do another one of those! - RT

C&D,

That sounds like a great trip!
I would like to give it a try!

Could you email me the info on the guide and maybe some pricing info?

Thanks, and tight lines,

Ray

ok, I tried this once before and it didn't work...RT, I have launched my 19 foot North River 12 or 15 times at PC. There has been a couple of 18-20' wood flat-bottom sleds launching for years. If you wait for the right set of waves I don't think you would have any problem, regarding the light front end. The launch can be tricky. You need to be set up with a tilt trailer both to launch and to load and you have to be prepared to get your truck "wet". Go with someone or make sure you have it figured out before you try it. You also need to be carefull on the slide...aluminum sticks more than wood or glass I think even with the flat bottom. BIG mistake the first time I came in for my world class slide. The great close-in bottom fishing, great silver fishing and decent chinook fishing out of this port make it worth looking at. By the way, great site, I've enjoyed being a listener to some good dialog. Thank's to RT and Jennie.
