I don't have it yet. They have fliers up in my neighborhood "warning" us of their upcoming work involving the installation of fiber optics. I don't really know what it's supposed to do for me. What is it and what does it do for us?

It much faster than DSL or cable and for me is less expensive than what I was paying before to Verizon and a separate ISP. I am getting the package that is 15Mbps download and 2Mbps upload.

It is 44.95 with a one year commitment. I think you can just have the FIOS without a phone. They will have to run a fiber optic cable to your house.

wow, 15 megs download is way faster than cable. I wonder if they plan on offering TV? Maybe we will finally have some competition for comcast..

Yes, the plan is to offer tv too. I checked and the tv is not yet available for my house but should be soon.

I have FIOS and it's amazing for the high bandwith users out there. I'm paying $39.95 ($5.00 off for a year). Plus, it's only $2.00 more than I was paying to Verizon for my DSL.

If you're cruising websites, and checking email you won't notice a difference. Most of the time you'll be hitting the other computers bandwith limitation before you hit yours.

For someone like myself who likes to download gigs at a time, and play online video games at the same time without noticing a bit of lag, it's worth the cost.

(The cost being they have to dig up your front/backyard to install it. Plus they remove your existing copper connection, so now you're phone lines will run over the fiber too. It's supposed to be better sounding, i don't notice a difference. Also, the fiber requires power at your end, they supply you with a backup battery, so if you power ever goes out, after 4 hours you won't have phone service either.)
