I was back in Ft. Lauderdale one time, visiting my parents.
They told me I should meet this neighbor or their's who had trained his Golden Retriever to dive underwater and pick up beer cans.
A few days later, I met the guy and his talented "trick" Golden Ret. He had it dive down in the deep end of a swimming pool and pick up a can of beer and bring it back up.
He told me that a few months earlier he'd done an ad, with Budweiser, and they'd paid him $20,000 for doing something like that in their ad.
While I was there in Florida I saw the ad when it ran on T.V. a few times. There were these 2 good old boys, out Bass fishing in this nice Bass Boat. One asks the other for a beer and the guy reaches into a cooler, and throws the can, but it goes over the other guy's head and splashes into the water.
So he tells the GR to, "Go Fetch Up the Beer" and the dog jumps off the boat and dives down about 15' in that super clear Florida lake water and picks up the can of Bud and brings it back up. Of course they had it filmed from underwater also and you could see the dog actually make the retrieve! It was pretty cool and I think they ran that ad for quite some time.
That guy and his dog had another cool trick...the dog could do arithmetic. He'd ask to dog a question, like, "What's 2 + 2?", and the dog would bark 4 times!
I watched him do it about 4-5 times, but different questions each time, and I couldn'g figure out HOW the dog was getting the right answers! :shocked:
He told me he did it with eye contact, the dog was trained to bark when he looked away then looked back AT the dog's eyes. But it was so subtle it was almost unnoticeable!
