Default New Olympic Sport Parking in A Hog Line

This would compete with curling. The contestants would be judged on anchor placement scope of rope for depth and current speed. If you need to chalk the bow over that wouuld be a definate point deduction while sliding into a hole in the hog line with say 2-3 inches on each side. We could add degrees of dificulty by adding some cross wind and current that moves slightly different from the wind direction. This would be judged by the two Old codgers that have been the first ones to anchor every morning in that spot since 1906. Of course some of the judges comments would need to be bleeped for TV viewing. I know I would watch.

Gundog,
Never have truer words been spoken. One of the highlights of fishing a hogline is the commentary of the "old-timers". I've been looking for even more bumpers to ad to my collection this year. The way I look at it the more the merrier.

I've seen the pictures and can't for the life of me figue out why (or how) you guys do that. Sorta like the 90 meter ski jump. I sure don't have the cajones to try it. I don't much like hoglining on the big river where theres 10-15 feet between boats. I do applaud the skill, tho

We could come up with a bunch of different catagories to go along with the anchoring event: Trailer backing in the dark at Hammond on an august weekend, Women's trailer Backing, Boat loading at the mouth of the Deschutes on a windy day without sidebunks, Boat loading at the Glisan boat ramp at midnight on 4th of July after the Fireworks. Cutting into a group of trollers at Drano or the mouth of the Deschutes.

I went to watch the fireworks a few years ago from the beach at that ramp. It tuned into truck launching later on. It was hillarious. Just add alcohol and some folks will do just about anything.

Don't forget the speed anchor competition, where the anchor is launched off the front after the driver pulls up going about 10 knots in forward then slams reverse, powers the motor at about 5,000 RPM, the front man throws the ball ever so precisely and the set takes place in less than 10 seconds.

Add to it the team competition, whereby the downstream hoggers wait until the last possible second before spreading the boats with boat poles like the parting of the Red Sea, swallowing the setters and closing the spread.

Bonus points for the amount of time it takes to get lines in the water and the first Barley Pop opened.

Another more death defying event associated with the Hog Line Olympics would be

BARGE DODGING - this is kind of like playing poker with a Bull loose in the arena. The last guy sitting wins, . Amusing to watch from the stands, but not much fun when you're sitting in the line....

Or, wife needs to go to the dock for God only knows whatever reason, Dropping of the anchor buoy, jetting to the dock, kissing the plank so sweety pie can ever so gingerly step off, slam in reverse, spin the wheel, slam in forward, all while not going over the 5mph limit, and pulling back into line just in time to see the boat next to you drop out with fish on!

Barge dodging will require all participants to anchor in the channel and a CAFB day and not pay attention upstream till 30 seconds after the second set of 5 blasts from the tug horn. Each participant will be required to retrieve and properly stow their rod, pull anchor and retrieve to the boat while heading up river right at the barge and drift down river in front of barge while rope is coiled and secured in the locker or drop out bag, all parties must be seated before you clear the bow pressure wave.

Style points awarded for the argument given to the Sheriff or CG while trying to get out of your ticket.

Oh man I hate that. Why do people think they need their highbeams on to back down the ramp? That is right up there with the guy that backs down and parks right in the middle of a two lane ramp. Sorry had to vent.

How about the guy with 50' of rope and a danforth anchor they got with the new ski boat that keep throwing it out and dragging it down through the hogline over and over

Stickfish must have been fishing in our hogline. It's usually the 3rd set of 5 blasts that gets the last of them, right before they realize the barge is going to have to swing out in the turn!
