Banded or Not?
My wife and I went in search of waterfowl today for a picture-taking excursion. The main access areas in our area were frozen over and the birds were too far out to photograph well. We went to our local pond in the park adjacent to the Columbia River. It tends to hold a lot of birds and all the locals like feeding a bunch of residents down there year round. We found this hen amongst the throng. It appears banded to me. What does everyone think?

Re: Banded or Not?
kind of a weird shape to the bottom if it is one.
the thing that made me question it is the color of the leg on the back drake
very cool if it is.
When i picked out the band off a drake this year as it dropped its feet, it shone like a mirror. really stuck out.

Re: Banded or Not?
The sun was getting fairly low when the picture was taken and there was much reflection. On the large version of the original it looks much more like a band under the surface of the water. I didn't even notice it while taking the picture and wasn't zooming in much. I may have to make a return trip and look for her again.

Re: Banded or Not?
I don't think so. How close were you when you took the pic? I think you would have seen it, or noticed while looking at the bird. It also looks to be flush with the leg, not sticking out at all. Even if it was tight, there would be some sort of definition I would imagine. I say negative ghost rider, but I have to be wrong sometimes, maybe?

Re: Banded or Not?
sure looks like it, but i am hesitant to say yes. it also apears that she has the same "band" on her other leg too. it may be just a play of the light off the water.
tough call...it sure does look like a band....
