Default Rivers West quality?

Like many others, I'm thinking about getting some.
Does it breath well? I sweat quite a bit...Do you have to wear a lot underneath? Size up one to accommodate clothes?
mix camo patterns?
Thanks for any help.

I have a rivers west guide series duck killing (wading jacket) The good:
This thing really blends in

This thing is WATERPROOF. Warm, and you will sweat regardless of what you wear.

If you wear fabric which is designed to wick sweat away from your skin (not cotton), you will not have trouble with this coat.

The bad:

Price =$250 2 years ago at GI Sombodies.

The Hood is not long enough in the back and it snapps on, so it snapps off sometimes when i do not want it to.

It was supposed to be unbreakable, but i broke the zipper this fall, Gi Somebodies payed me for the replacement zipper.

There is no collar to speak in the front, which means that unless i wear a high collared undershirt, my neck throat is exposed to the wind on the boat ride.

It is the best coat i have ever owned, but it could use a couple of modifications

Rivers West makes an excellent product and the customer service is hard to beat in the apparel industry.

Bill,

I was looking at the jackets last year and called the maufacturer to ask the same questions as you. The material does not breathe, some models have the underarm zippered vents to allow ventilation. The jackets are well made and are definitely warm.

I came very close to buying a Rivers West jacket this last season. "close" meaning that i had it in my cart. because of some design issues with the jacket, mainly how the flaps come over the shoulder right where one would bring a gun to bear, i put it back on the rack and bought a Drake jacket instead. the Drake is made of similiar type of material as the Rivers West Jacket and was a very nice change in hunting apparel. i would assume that the Rivers West jacket would be just as comfortable and waterproof as the Drake system is..and therefore probably a good choice. It isn't as breathable as some types of material, but the waterproof/windproof capabilities cut down on the need for a lot of under-layers and when i found the right balance the breathability (sp?) wasn't a problem.

I have no experience with the coats, but I sure love the pants. I bought them last year, and I have been very happy with them. They are very comfortable, and you don't need any thermals underneath, unless you are going to be sitting for long periods of time. Very waterproof, and quiet, and warm. I would definetely buy them again.

I would suggest one size up, I bought a 2x and all I could wear underneath was a t- shirt and I was plenty warm, but I kind of like to layer my clothing so I sold it and bought a 3x direct from Rivers West. It is the best rainware I've seen yet

I've worn their jacket and pants while elk hunting for the last 3 years. I hike a lot on my elk hunts - probably average 7 miles a day, so I sweat in it a lot. I need to hang it up inside out every night to dry. However, it's warm and the waterproofing is excellent. It could breathe better, but I suppose if it lets water out, it's got to let it in! I'd prefer 100% waterproof and deal with the sweating. I suggest the guide model jacket with the hood.

Just got my set. Hoping it will rain soon, so I can test em out. My question is, how much weight do the gain, after a day in the rain?
