Default Coastal Steel Factory

I have had a blast this winter. For some unknown reason (jig & float) I have enjoyed more success this year than many years prior. I learned alot this year, both on my own & from others.

This was the second steelhead I caught this year on a float & jig. This fish measured 36" long and 19" around, my biggest steelhead...yet. All of my fish seemed to succumb to a pink/white, orange/white, & red/white jigs.
I owe a big thanks to Ifish for random bits of good info, Mark @ First Cast Jigs for my first batch of jigs, floats & weights & the knowledge to make my own, and to great fishing buddies...Ty, thanks for helping me read the water & prodding me to try new places.

I know this season is not over, but I just had to express my thanks.

Thats a great looking fish. Glad to see that the float and jig method is working for you, it really is a fun way to catch fish.

First Cast-
Well Mark you told me to report back and let you know how they worked...proof positive jigs really do work.

Salmo-
Have you scored any more since #1? I noticed there was still one in "the hole" the last time I was there.

I was wondering if anyone experienced jigs catching more bucks than hens? I have landed 3x as many bucks this year as hens. Is this a result of natural aggression or chance?

Josh,

I have only caught 7 hens fer 34 fish! That is twenty percent.

As DJ would say aorry about your luck. Ha ha!

Seriously, u know that I use floats and jigs, shrimp and driftin' shrimp. Know biologically a run isw 50/50 boys to girls and early should be a higher percent boys and higher percent girls later towards the end of the run, assuming catchin methods are all equal.

So, knowing that six of the seven hens I have caught where under 24" (more than likely all one salts and that they all where wild brooders).

I say that the run is just know peakin' and slightly skewed late with the wild broodstock makin up fifty percent of the run, even thoug they where spawned at the same time as the hatchery brooders in teh last two years.

Any one else care to take a shot?
