16 degrees and 12 of these
Had the pleasure of going on a hunt with Quackhead (Chris) and his father (Qh's paw) or is it Qh'spa? (Mike) and their chocolate lab Cody today.
I am lucky, becasue Chris has really done the homework on the places to go.
There are geese to hunt in lots of fields in the Permit Zone, and to get limits of geese there is not as unusual as setting up and hunting and getting the drop on A dozen Bruiser Westerns in Floater dekes on the River!
Chris knew where to go, how to set up, and was definitely in the goose loop today!
Mike brought Cody and he did a great job... A better behaved dog I have never seen, and not even a 2 year old yet.
Some whiffed shots by yours truly and one boater came by and netted one of our downed birds that sailed and died off to the side.
Always good to get help from the locals on the net.
Chris, I owe you and your dad for one heck of a great hunt today.
Thanks again for showin me how its done.
Photos forthcoming

Re: 16 degrees and 12 of these
OH THE HEAVY'S!!!! I have been whackin' steady but man am I jealous of the honkers. It just ain't a real goose unless it's a honker. We whacked limits this morning of valley big birds but again, nothing like honkers, and over water. That must have been one hell of a fun hunt. Congrats to your buddy on doing his homework and putting together a GREAT hunt.

Re: 16 degrees and 12 of these
As always, it was a pleasure to hunt with you Todd.
To anyone that gets a chance to hunt with todd, you won't be disappointed. He is a great guy and very positive person.
And, of course, it was awesome to shoot our 12 birds by 10.
Still have a few more days of the season left and I am definitley going to try to get one more day like that in.
I got a couple places in mind

Re: 16 degrees and 12 of these
So Chris...what's the story behind the egg?
Did it come from one of the geese or did you stumble upon a nest?
and....how did it eat?

Re: 16 degrees and 12 of these
Actually, that egg is from last season (I believe). Because it was in that spot about a month and a half ago. I am surprised that it is still there and nothing has ate it. Plus I would have thought it would have washed away when all the flooding was happening. We just threw it in to show that getting a goose egg is not always a bad thing.
I don't know how it ate cause I decided that it was probably best for something else to eat it because I would like to make it to next duck season

Goose eggs are great. I hope you eat it. They make very good cakes, extra fluffy.

Is that the voice of experience or just what you've heard. I would say that since that egg was sitting in nearly the same place during duck season it is probably already a good candidate for balute. Not sure of the correct spelling of balute but, for those who don't know it is an egg that is half way through it's incubation and then buried for a month or so. Yes, the cultures that do this eat it after that. I think there is more to the process but don't know the whole details.
