I'm not familiar with either of those units but I've been happy with my Garmin 172C.

The other problem with losing the internal battery is it doesn't store the GPS "almanac" info, so it will take like 15 minutes or so to start up every time before you get a fix. Those batteries seem to last somewhere around 10 years.

The almanac info tells the gps where to expect the satellites to be in the near future. If it isn't able to store this stuff between power-ups then it must aquire enough of a new one before being useful each time. At least that's the way I understand it.

Mike,
I have redundant systems one Raymarine on a C80 and also a Hand held 276 Garmin. This is the second Garmin I have owned and I absolutly love every aspect of them. You cant beat them in my humble opinion.
If you want more input please feel free to PM me or give me a call @ 541-912-3373
You will probably recognize the boat rather than the name. Black 2601 Striper name "Fishtales". You I believe also know some very good friends of mine, Dave and Jenifer.

I just ordered a remanufactured SH CP155c and it should be here tomorrow. I got it for the low price of 275.00 from a web site in Florida. I also ordered the maxsea c-map chip for it that also cost 275.00. I plan on making this my back GPS, as it will also interface with my DSC radio and show the location of my buddies on it. I already have the lcx 19 and Garmin 176c on the vessel. I will let you know how it works out, when I get it installed, the guys on THT(thehulltruth) really seem to have nothing but good things to say about the Standard Horizons, and for the money, you can't beat them.
