I have a big favor to ask....
I have a kid that works at the store I manage who is from a terible circumstance( foster home to foster home....) and really wants to try to do the right thing he is a great kid never been in trouble and wants to join the army so on and so fourth. he really wants to fish and has no real money if anyone has a spinning rod that they would cut loose for cheap I would love to buy it and give it to him for his birthday next week. I would love to help him out he is probably the greatest kid I know these days and always does so much for everyone else. so if anyone has a rod that would work for summer steelhead please let me know.
thanks again

Re: I have a big favor to ask....
If what you say is true I have a GL29000S I would donate and I will pay to ship. I challenge another IFISHR to donate a spinning reel of matching caliber. This rod is multipuropse, winters, summers, seabass, ect...

Re: I have a big favor to ask....
Salmonator. I have several excellent spinning reels and will be happy to ship one already loaded with the right line. E-mail me with specifics about the kind of rod, size of reel and line that you need. Cool idea.

I would love to donate a box or two of necessary tackle to go with his new rod. I even have a columbia fishing vest that I would like to donate for him. What about a float down the river to break it in..............

Re: I have a big favor to ask....
I don't have any extra steelhead poles around the house, but I have 6 or 7 good quality spin reels that would work great for him. If he needs a good trout outfit, I can help you out with everything.
Send me an email if you need anything SJ. I think it's great what you are doing.

Re: I have a big favor to ask....
I have some pre made slinkies weights made up if that helps. I would be willing to make some more if the ones I have are to big or small. Can someone give me an idea what weights are best for Steelheading. I would also be willing to make up some leaders. Again what size hooks / test for leaders?
Salmonberry I can bring them by since I live in Hillsboro. Send me a pm with an address.

Re: I have a big favor to ask....
Salmonberry,
I will join Small Fry and bring some spinners and bobbers, fresh cured eggs, a wobbler and some teardrop weights. I also have a 3 piece tool set with a flashlight, pocket knife and a leatherman like tool comes with a carrying case.
I have an old tacklebox that I was going to get rid off that he is welcome to have.
See you around 5:00 @ Hanks

Re: I have a big favor to ask....
Thumper, for reference I use symetre's in 4000 size and they match well with the rod. 3000's would probably work. I think 2000's are getting a little small... Joe

Re: I have a big favor to ask....
This is the reel deal (pun intended), went with small fry to meet Jeff and the kid in need was working he came out and I think was surprised. He was really quiet and shy probably scared of the likes of small fry and I. Anyways the kid is real and seems like a good kid. I'm sure after meeting Jeff that he wouldn't go out on a limb for just any kid as there are several working at Hanks. You can just get a vibe, if you will, when someone is a good kid and maybe one that isn't worth the time. I feel really good about giving the kid some of my extra fishing stuff and you will too.
I think having a rod and reel in his hands to go along with some of the gear he was given would really make his day.

Re: I have a big favor to ask....
thanks again guys! it was great to meet Kodiakfisher and small fry. I can not thank all of you enough. Lee was shy but very excited he can not and wate for some of these trips you all have so kindly offered. All I can say is thank you and thank you and thank you. I can not wait to see his rod doubled over and somthing yanking the other end and neither can he.
As far as getting together Monday or tuesday are good for me. I would love it, it would be fun to put some gear together and names to faces and then all of you would meet lee first hand. let me know what will work out or wear to go.

Just droped an old but seldom used Fenglass rod off at Ollie Damons. They are switching it from casting to spin, ready in 2 weeks. Hope it's not going to be to late for winter steelhead.

WOW!! Now this is the ifish of long a go. This is what this board is all about. I get tired of the fights about who is right or wrong about any number of things. Keep it up. I was raised in foster homes about 10 different ones, so I know what this young man is going through. You are all great for what you have offered. I and Tillalmook Anglers will give anything you need. Let me know. Also if you guys will be meeting tonight, let me know. I will be in Portland. 503- 812-1572. Keep up the good work. Jerry
