Default Corrosion on Depthfinder wires

How do I get rid of the corrosion on the power wires that lead to my DF?

I've tried the in-line switch like the manual recommends, and it didn't work. I've tried soldering the connections and then covering with elec. tape, liquid elec. tape, adhesive lined shrink tube and nothing works.

I've e-mailed Eagle,and they don't have any help,other than what I've tried.

Whats next?

It looks like it is tinned copper, and has the plastic coating like most wiring does, but its really fine wire. It looks to be like 22-24ga. Its so fine it only takes a tiny bit of corrosion before it breaks .

You might want to try marine grade stainless. And check the grounding, along with the zinc's

I put corrision block on all my connections when they are new. I then reapply the corrision block every two years there after. I can say that I don't have this problem that your describing, so it must work................Bobber Down

I use dialectric greae on every fitting in the boat as well as battery terminals. Never have had a problem with corrosion since using this stuff. I spend a lot of time in the salt.

I have used LPS Rust Inhibitor on all my electrical wiring, fuse blocks, all connections ect. NEVER had a problem. It is in a Blue/turquoise spary can. I'm sure u can buy it at most industrial supply houses or I buy mine at Englund Marine. I spray all the plug connects on VHF,CB, FF,GPS, Radar, light bulb sockets etc. Great stuff. Used it for YEARS and YEARS! Good luck.

I doin!t know if this will work for depth finders wire, but i was haveing a lot of trouble with battery post corrosian untill i started useing
NAPA BATTERY CLEANER. I used to use baking soda to clean the post . I now use NAPA!S battery cleaner . After i clean and dry the post off , i then spray them with PERMATETEX PROTECTOR AND SEALER . I had my worst problems in my boat , i have 4- batterys on board and haven!t had a problem since i started useing these two products. I am useing 10-batterys for my truck , car , camper and two extra batterys for my boat .
Iv!e never had any corrosion for the last three years . i!m slill useing the original cans that i bought three years ago . I keep wondering how long it will last ........

illbfish, corrision block is a spray that I buy at England Marine. You put this stuff on and it keeps it like new. You should put it on from the get go, don't let things sit and be all corroded then put this on, as the corrosion has already started. I use it on my radar arch that is made out of aluminum, and we all know how that is exposed to the elements. This product is a blue color that penetrates well (as long as your applying it to a dry surface). Like I say I use it on all elec. connections, and anything aluminum. I buy it by the gal. but you can buy it in smaller quanities as well...............Bobber Down
