Default Hi!

Hi everyone! I'm Swabby. I the fella that bought WB's boat. After I got it tagged and bagged, the bone-heads went and closed the season. Anyways, I'm chomping at the bit to get out on the ocean and do some fishing. So, can anyone help a guy out and post some coordinates from Newport or Depot Bay (Oregon) to some spots for some bottom fish (my 6 Bass) and some Lings? I would very much apprciate it. Thanks all!

Swabby

Hi Swabby,

You can use the search function to great reward for Depot bay stuff. most of the places out from newport includes the south reef and down towards seal rock we've done well... I dont have any numbers handy but if you invest in a chart for the area which I suggest you can pinpoint likely spots via the chart. There are a few deeper spots like 90-130 ft that were producing lings for folks in the seal rock area...

Swabby, Who is “WB”? …O….you mean WP . You need to get in touch with Walter (Salty Walty) and see if you can talk him to showing you the ropes out there . Maybe WP would give you some pointers. So what’s your story. Fish the ocean much?

Hey Michael! That GPS has a few waypoints marked for the inside reefs, south of Newport, Kelly can show you which ones. Most any spots with pinicles that show fish will produce. Down around seal rock is my favorite area.
Good luck to ya, it sounds like the ocean is shaping up again.
Give these guys a story of intro and they will welcome you with open arms!

Kelly and I had this discussion, and decided we didn't understand your method for naming the waypoints.

Also, I took a look at the boat the other day, full of mold. Any tips on how to keep that from happening?

Michael

I started fishing the ocean with my best bud when I was 18. We would go out on a charter every Thursday. That was out of Ventura, CA. I never had my own boat, so I'm ready to learn, and learn how to fish these waters.

Awesome. Welcome aboard. The mold thing is tough, esp for a boat under a cover. If you can manage to, keep the cover as water tight at possible. A small light would go a long way if you can run an extension cord to the boat, if not, you can use dessicant, but you will have to keep replacing it.

As far as the waypoints for the reefs south of Newport, there are bunches of them. You can pretty much set up in 60-120' of water and just drift south, catching fish all the way! I don't have specific numbers with me, but I can send you some later. I am sure they will be similar to the ones WP has left for you in the GPS.

Welcombe aboard Swabby! Like stated earlier check with the search. Try Depoe Bay Dan as he added a map to his spots. I went back and found the post for you. DepoeBayDan (Born to be Wild)

Swabby....Welcome aboard. If you bought WP's boat, you got a fish killin' machine!!!!!
The mold.....Get a spray bottle (1 pint) put two tbls clorox and water in it....spray away.
If you've got a problem with colorfast fabrics, use two tbls liquid tide instead of clorox

Welcome and good luck!! If you have the boat covered, I would buy a couple of moisture traps - they are effective and not too costly. Have been using them for about 5 years and they make a big difference.
