Default North coast report: Solo smackdown!

Well, I had to do it. Two buddies boged within a hour of eachother Saturday night so I decided to go it alone.
Got to the Wilson at sunrise and figured that I would start at Elk creek and work my way down. The river was PRIME! a little clear but very fishable. To my suprise, no fish to be seen not even another fisherman! So down river I went stopped at two or three other drifts and nada! Finally out of plain luck I caught sight of a nice spot just below mile marker 16, three casts with my favorite pink and white jig and Whack! Fish On! A scrappy little hen with some color, so back she went. Missed one other and moved on.
I hit a few other places and nothing, so I took a drive and wound up at the north fork (Nehalem).
Boy this one is gonna be tough! Low clear conditions(38") and the guy on the recording saying the run is winding down. When I got to the spot two guys were landing a fish up river and I thought that it might be better than I expected. Boy was I right! My drift was so clear that I almost could see to the bottom, but a half hour or so and bang! a little cookie cutter demolished my pink/pearl corkie and went tailwalking down stream. I landed this little one and released due to color. Walked back up to the drift, Made about ten more casts and bang! a nice buck! He did'nt like me too much and took me down where the hen did before, after this fight got bloody it was time for another, so back to the drift. I ended up turning one more and had one hit so hard that it stripped line from under my thumb. Then like someone turned on a faucet the monsoon hit. I was out of there.

Better leave my spot alone Jim Ya spot stealer

Glad you got some fish. Sometimes solo is the best way to fish in my opinion. That is when I have had some of my best trips.

Get ready for Springers!
