Remember Gary Borger?
Does anyone else remember Gary Borger? I grew-up watching his flyfishing videos. I remember what a class-act he seemed to be. Thinking about ordering one or two of his videos, just for old-times sake.

Yes he is the one who did the shadow casting in "A River Runs Through it"
Amazing caster! Saw him last July at the Camp Sherman Bamboo Fair

Re: Remember Gary Borger?
Oh, I thought his son, Jason, did the shadow casting. Amazing scene, no matter which one of them did it. Truly an art.

Re: Remember Gary Borger?
I'm gonna hijack my own thread, Stew-
I had never thought about the fact that Jason was probably using a bamboo rod to do that shadow casting. Am I correct in understanding that casting a bamboo rod is much more difficult than a fiberglass or graphite rod? If so, it just makes that scene even more amazing.

Re: Remember Gary Borger?
They have a slower action than fiberglass or graphite but are not more difficult to cast in my opinion. I guess if anything it may be easier to cast a cane rod as long as you can get used to the slower action.

Re: Remember Gary Borger?
He was working with Thomas & Thomas Rods in the 90's and still a college professor. I had the pleasure of working with him at a few trade shows and he is not only a gifted angler and intelligent man but genuine man. His books continue to be invaluable.

That is like asking a basketball fan if they remember John Stockton.

Re: Remember Gary Borger?
John Stockton is on somebody's knick-knack shelf collecting dust somewhere; Gary Borger is a fly-fishing legend.

Re: Remember Gary Borger?
Melissa is obviously not a Jazz fan (thank goodness).
I have to admit my ignorance here. I wasn't aware of Gary's prowess or his son, but when you mentioned the shadow casting from a "River runs through it" I knew exactly what you meant. Any suggestions on what videos someone should get who is looking to familiarize themselves with his work? Stew does Don have these?

Re: Remember Gary Borger?
To the best of my knowledge, Jason et.al. used Hexagraph rods in "A River Runs Through It", not bamboo. The Hex rods look exactly like bamboo and incorporate bamboo rod framework, but are made with a type of graphite.

you need lol.
john stockton is everything a basketball player should be!
Yeah, sure Gary Borger is a legend, and arguably one of the best casters ever, but can he hit a 15 foot runner to win the game?

Re: Remember Gary Borger?
Borger's 'Color System' was an interesting concept but never went anywhere's beyond his personal writings.
Do they still make Gary Borger wading shoes?

Re: Remember Gary Borger?
I've been away from a computer for a few days, and missed these latest posts.
nookslayer-
I would just do a google search for some of Borger's videos. It appears his website is down right now, but I found them by doing a search.
