Question for the computer geeks
When I try to put my computer into standby mode to save power, I get an error message saying that a driver or a device on COM1 is preventing the system from hibernating and that I should turn the device off or update the driver.
How do I figure out what driver or device is causing the problem? I have no "devices" connected right now, so aside from cable internet there shouldnt be a problem. What gives??

Re: Question for the computer geeks
Hit Cytl, Alt, Del and look at your Task manager.
Go down the list and see if you can pick it out.
I hope this helps.

Re: Question for the computer geeks
That'll just show me everything that is running though...not what is causing the problem on COM1.

Re: Question for the computer geeks
do you have any devices plugged into the computer at all? this includes USB, LAN, SCSI, or parallel.

Re: Question for the computer geeks
Comm1 is a serial port driver. Normally 9pin male connector on back. Check that you didn't set a modem or printer up on it.

Re: Question for the computer geeks
it is not only the 9pin connector, sometimes USB will emulate and connect through comm1. My PDA base is USB but commects through comm 1 on my computer. its all about what virtual port they access.
try unplugging everything but keyboard, mouse and monitor...reboot and see if it will sleep. then add things one by one. that is the hard way but it will give you a definative answer.

Re: Question for the computer geeks
my computer , control panel , system, hardware , device manager, ports , comm1. Then look at properties, device status and what drivers are on it.

Re: Question for the computer geeks
Sorry to be there bearer of bad news but Ill bet its either your printer or PDA. the good news is that with updated drivers and the right settings you will be able to fix it.

Re: Question for the computer geeks
some USB hubs I have seen install some driver/application Krap.. remove that stuff for sure. Also manually disable your USB ports.
I have seen this before on my NBs, and the answer can be many things...
do the 3 fingered salute and capture the screen and post,, or PM some of us with it..
