Glad you two hooked up on that. DC, that was way too cool of you. Jeremy, I hope you whack 'em. The island is kicking out a few ducks and not a big crowd lately. Maybe you should try there?? Good luck to everyone!

The Delta has been tough again this year. When we had the cold weather and all the ice, the delta and up river was kicking out a bunch of ducks. I took the boat and set up shop two weeks ago and only saw two ducks (hunted till 11:30). There is a ton of water around and the birds are scattered on the columbia. I will not be going back there for the last weekend. I was near claskanine this weekend, there was a bunck of birds (ducks and Geese).

I hope you find some birds

Did your buddy fall out again? Tell him swimming should be reserved for the summer time in the Sandy/Columbia river

To all you guys who hunted it this year, I was thinking about hitting it on sunday, should I just go jump shoot it or would some dekes be a good idea. Any help would be great.

Thanks WW

Widgeon Wacker, if you are parking your truck and walking in to hunt, be careful about your rig in the parking lot. There have been many break ins and my truck was stolen from there a few years back.
That being said, one thing I have done is combine a jump shoot and a decoy shoot by walking in with a few dekes in a pack and jump shooting while looking for a place the birds want to be. Good hunting. Kris

Thanks for the help. A co-worker and I are going to hit it on sunday, sounds like I should put about a dozen dekes in a backpack and see what happens.

Thanks WW

I would bring as many decoys as you can. 12 decoys may not be enough. I know a couple people who will bring 6-7 dozen.

Depending on where you are planning on going a cart might be tough to get out to the slough or river. Carry as much as you can.

The wind and rain that is going to come should help you out as well

So here is my question. If I park my rig at the gate, I walk in east of the powerlines and then its fair game for shooting. I plan on finding some sheet water and jump shoot for awhile, if the birds want one spot really bad then throw out the dekes and see whats up. Am I headed in the right vicinity as far as been legal is concerned. I read the regs but they are very vague on this place, wonder why???

Thanks WW

You cann hunt east of the lines, but I would park east of them instead of parking where all the hikers and PETA supporters hang out. There is a pull out about 1 mile east of the powerlines. You can either hunt the slough or you can go to the main columbia. If I were jump shooting, I would go to the slough. You might have some guys with decoys in the slough, so know your target.

So much for the forecasted wind and rain, we sat out on the island all morning and didnt get a shot at anything, not much flying a couple flocks of ducks out on the river and a bunch of geese but nothing close enough to come take a look at our spread.
