Meeting to discuss halibut season options
NEWPORT - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials today announced a Jan. 25 meeting in Newport to discuss the 2006 Pacific halibut sport season.
The public meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Embarcadero, 1000 SE Bay Blvd. The 2007-2008 groundfish sport fishery also will be discussed at the meeting.
Don Bodenmiller, ODFW halibut project leader, will present quotas and possible open season dates for Oregon's all-depth sport fishery between Cape Falcon and Humbug Mountain. The catch-sharing plan for the 2006 fishery also will be on the agenda.
ODFW will hear comments regarding the number and dates of fixed open days during the spring (May to July) all-depth season on the central Oregon coast, and backup dates for the spring fishery in case quota remains after the fixed dates.
Gway Kirchner, ODFW groundfish supervisor, will discuss the sport groundfish season outlook for the coming 2007-2008 biennium.
Questions and comments can be provided without attending the meeting by calling Bodenmiller or Kirchner at 541-867-4741.
Reasonable accommodations are provided as needed for individuals requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or large-print materials.
