It's a great movie that somehow got under radar and was never recognized. Sean Penn *should* have won an award for his portrayal of Sam.

It was a great flick. I could have watched that 3 years ago and walked away unphased....but now, with a (almost) 2 year old and another due in 3 months, it was killing me.

Penn should have gotten an award. The roll was a bit too Rainman-ish, but he did a tremendous job. If nothing else the run around the corner and fall down the stairs was priceless....one of those sad moments that you cant help but to laugh at.

Never underestimate the abilities of those who face challenges greater than you and I. I know, I have two wonderful sons who face them daily and with greater courage than you can imagine. My son Kyle is a full on fishing junky too. I'm glad actors like as Sean Penn turn out such outstanding performances in these films. Helps open eyes. And yes there are more opportunities to laugh and less to cry than you can believe. You understand the struggle, better to laugh.

It is a great movie, I've seen it twice, then I have to go in and hug my daughters.

Sean Penn was nominated for Best Actor for his role in "I am Sam", but Denzel Washington ended up winning that year for his role in "Training Day".
