Default Another Newbie

Hey All -
Ok, I`ve come up with a kinda cool "handle" and I have been observing from a distance (lurking) and now taking the plunge into Ifish world!
The last couple of weeks I have had the obsession to fish for the elusive steelhead once again return to me after over more than a decade of being absent from the banks.
(It`s not that I didn`t want to during that time, but life happens and priorities changed.)
My brother-in-law turned me on to Ifish and I have been reading and laughing my rear-end off the last few days!

It is a really awesome site here!

Last weekend I spent several hours on a few coastal streams...
I was pretty excited about going at first, then I found it...my old Eagle Claw 201SG...and I broke out in a sweat as flashbacks of backlashed kickbacks and tangles that may have been an influence to drive me away from fishing for a few years came to mind!
But the obsession had me and I had to do it. After searching high & low, my house and several others, I was unable to find any of my old steelhead tackle.
On Friday evening my Dad came out into his garage to find out what the heck the noise was, and found me rooting thru storage boxes of fishing gear that came from who knows where and organized so he was the only one who truly understood the system.
After hearing my story he dug around like he didnt know where anything was, then popped up and presented me with a nice little box of okies and rusted hooks from circa; around the time of my birth.
I was ready!
Off to Joe`s,(only a few blocks away) Luckily that night the 20 for a dollar sale was still on the corkies and I was able to get a nice selection at a reasonable price. Some hooks, line, etc.
Most of Saturday and Sunday was spent on river with the reel... Kind of reminded me of a old cowboy story where the cowboy was going to beat the bronc no matter what....
By the end of it I was able to come to pretty good terms with the old reel and we actually started to like each other.
I was grateful to be on the river again! Didn`t hook a fish that weekend, but the fever`s there and I can`t wait to get out again!
I have learned a lot thru your posts the last few days, and it has helped me to remember a few things I`d forgotten.
What a great site! Everything you need to know, and if you don`t, a bunch of people to ask!
Thanks, and I will try to be a good Ifisher!
 (and not put anymore of you to sleep )

I guess the reel isn`t a Eagle Claw ... it`s a Shimano.

I just call it "blankity-blank reel" sometimes.
