Sage Rat Info (ASAP)
I'm heading down to go sage rat hunting tomorrow, and wanted to know if anyone had any reports for Christmas valley or Crane area. Is there a place I could call to find out on the weather(wind)? Where would you go on these short notices? Any info is greatly appericated.....Ross
I will take the camera and have a report when I get back.

Re: Sage Rat Info (ASAP)
Christmas Valley has always been easy for me.... we just knock on doors and we can usually get permission, might take a few tries. The weather is great in S.Oregon today, but they are calling for a weather change this weekend, but not sure how it will effect East of the Cascades. Go to accuweather.com and search the area you want to go to get a weather update. Alfalfa fields and the edge of the fields are usually good !!!! Have fun and respect the farmers property, cause I'll be over in the next couple of weeks. Give us a report

Re: Sage Rat Info (ASAP)
I always respect others property. I grew up on a farm, and we always had problems with bird hunters cutting the fence, shooting at the cows I do know what you mean about a few bad apples ruin it fot the rest.....Ross

Re: Sage Rat Info (ASAP)
windy tomorrow either place, a bit less windy Friday, and not supposed to be windy this weekend. Highs 60-70 and sun each day. I've got a # for the General store/Cafe in Crane if you need it. Should be good.

Well, shooting was very poor. It was cold and windy,we did get some shooting but not alot. I did get a Confirmed kill at 142 yards with a 22lr and a 4X scope.

Re: Sage Rat Info (ASAP)
Hello all.
I have lived and farmed in Christmas Valley for the last 18 years. We allow hunters every summer as long as they are careful with their guns and our property.
We have seen a lot of crazy things over the years. Last week a hunter shot out the back window in his Toyota 4x4. Previous years, we had a person shoot out his floorboard while asking permission to hunt.
Right now we have two hunters with their young sons in one of our fields. The weather is warm with no wind and rats are all over.
If any Ifisher wants to hunt or know what the weather is,send me an email and I will reply as soon as possible. We have room for hunters to dry camp here and have room for several hunters every week. All I ask is for them to be careful.

Re: Sage Rat Info (ASAP)
Hello again,
I thought I would let everyone that emailed me know that I will be gone starting Thursday for a week. However, my nephew Tony will be here and can answer calls for directions etc. He just wont be accessing the computor. He is even more computor illiterate than I am if that is possible.
The weather is getting warmer again today and we saw a lot of rats. Also, I might add that if anyone is good at calling coyotes, we have a lot in this area.

Say do you know a Don Boyles that has a ranch over in your area? I went to school with him.

Re: Sage Rat Info (ASAP)
I went down to central Oregon the 18th through the 21st. Went to christmas valley on the 19th, right when that weather front came through. It was windy and about 56 degrees. Needless to say the hunt was poor. The weather got warmer and warmer on sat and sun (20th,21st) but ended up just hanging around my uncles ranch and shooting some rats there. Had fun but didn't get to see the numbers I was hoping. Talked to a guy named Tim Pucket, nice guy, he owns a lot of the farm land around Christmas valley on the south side of the main highway. He gave my cousin and I permission. He would be another place for any one who was looking for permission. Stop at one of the mini-marts or the cafe, they can point you in the right direction.
