Default Any other 50 BMG shooters here?

Always looking to compare notes/guns and talk with fellow owners. I am hoping to get it out and knock off a few sage rats this weekend.

Remember this: When the rats head underground, just aim lower!

I have a State Arms single shot. At 41 lbs it is a pussycat to shoot. It always causes excessive smileage whenever I let anyone at the range take their first shot.

If you have been thinking about one I would encourage you to do some research on them. They can be very expensive to feed and take care of, but nothing can beat them in the fun department! Something about sending 750 grain bullets down range at 30-06 velocities. Not to mention the fun projos like AP, API, APIT, Spotter/Tracer, and Blue Tip(which should clean and cook a sage rat all at once) . If you decide to pursue that route drop me a line and I can try to answer any questions that you have.

I want one  I've shot two different 50cals...the one big one was 53lbs, custom sniper rifle
The other one was only in the 30lb range. Both single shots. Both fun to shoot

How do they compare with a 30-378 weatherby kick. I think the 30-378 has aroud 40 +\- foot pounds of energy on the kick.

I shot 2 and reloaded for one of them( 225 grains of powder, if memory serves!!).

One was a McMillan that was not too bad, other than the muzzle blast it was alright to shoot. It weighed better than 40 pounds ready to go( I think).

The other was a bolt gun with a muzzle break( the real reason my memory is shaky is due to firing this unit). It weighed well under 20 pounds on the line. I think the barrel was a lot shorter than the McMillan too. I shot it twice..... With whimpy 660 grain bullet loads..... I would rather get in a streetfight with Mike Tyson than do that again.

On the second shot I realized that burning smell was from the blast out of the brake has actually burnt some of the carpet on top of the shooting bench!

I have fired a 505 Gibbs that weighed 10 pounds that was loaded quite hot. It was heavy in recoil, but managable. The lightweight .50 was not.

Fun to talk about. And rather forgiving to reload for( in my limited experience).

The biggest downside to owning one would be everyone would want to talk to you at the range, so load development would take about 10 times what it should. But at 800 yards, when them sissy .300 mags are getting tossed around in the breeze, they are the shizzle.

Mark and the bag of shot between me and the gun on the next shot dog.

The two that I shot had the recoil of about a 12ga with slugs

I am a recoil junky so not much bothers me. Heck I have even thought about removing the brake on my gun just once, but when I think about it long enough anything with ~12,000 ft/lbs of muzzle energy is going to ring my bell even in a 40+ lb gun. I might need a sissy bag or two for that stunt.

But in all seriousness my friends 15 year old daughter (110 soaking wet) loves to shoot it. Some of the muzzle brakes out there are so efficient that they will knock everything off of the benches next to you, i.e. K&P, and Armalite. Including new spotting scopes. All of them make for an awesome display at night.

I currently have the older round style brake with 32 holes spaced around it. I like it for bench shooting because the muzzle blast is dispersed 360 degrees, but when I shoot prone it kicks up too much dirt and it ends up getting into everything. The first time that I shot it prone I was facing into the wind and I had dirt under my shirt and in my pants.

When it comes to reloading you only get about 30 rounds per pound of powder. Thank goodness for mil-surplus or you would go broke.

Military sniper weapon with 605 grn. steel cased bullet and thermal imaging scope. It could detect body heat through 2' of wall. 1000yds. no problem. The thermal scope would not pick up heat at yardage over 300, even then it was a little sketchy. Exit hole on a adobe wall was impressive. Barrett 82A1 a semi auto doesn't kick overly bad. If you are not shouldering it right it will really hurt. The M95M Bolt hurts. You are half nuts trying to shoot without the muzzle break. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" />
