Re: Turkey areas
Check Oakridge, Medford or any where around Jackson and Josephine counties. Plenty of knock and talk hunts avail if your willing to ask.

Re: Turkey areas
The knock & talk advise by PSE is right on.
I like anywhere with Oak/Fir mix, transitional ground as I like to refer to it.

Re: Turkey areas
Quackhead,
I am hunting around Corvallis this year. I know where several herds roam, but haven't got access to them yet. Care to share a general area with me?
Thanks!

Re: Turkey areas
East slope of the cascades for day hunts. Further east on longer trips. All public land.

Re: Turkey areas
head east!! More open country, more hunt able birds, more public land then down south.
It also never hurts to hire a guide much like fishing the price is worth it's wieght in gold when you knock one down and are able to hunt over good populations of birds with someone that knows the birds well. Haveing hunted with guides for turkeys on severel ocassions the price is not much higher then I would have spent in gas and food and camping to hunt for a weekend. especialy for a turkey if you live in the portland area. by the time you drive to josephine county or any southern counties you are already at least 100 to 150.00 into gas alone?? add on food and general crap to hunt and you are well over 200 bucks already and are hunting public land

Re: Turkey areas
On the west side, anywhere you find poison oak. They go together like peas and carrots

Re: Turkey areas
I would totally agree about the poison oak.
Every turkey season I get it atleast 1 time, usually more.
And there is no medicine out there that works great.

Re: Turkey areas
I like those hills around Amity, McCminville. I wish I could get on some private property over there. Seen a few turkeys wondering around there........

Re: Turkey areas
Oh yes there is...
They make a soap you can use. It was made here in Oregon and it really works. If you want I will look it up tonight and post it. I get Blisters just looking at the poison Oak and this stuff works for me. I keep it in my first aid kit.
The last time I got poison Oak was a Catherine Creek. I was walking the hills with Short on. I had it all over my legs Including on my ( You know ). I used the soap and it clean it right up. It comes in a soap and it comes in a cream. It nutralizes the Alkiloids that causes the Rash.
PM me if you want me to post it tomorrow. I will PM you back as well as post it on this thread. Fred Meyers has it.
I think this is the stuff. There is one made Specially for Oregon poison Oak... Tecnu® Poison Oak-N-Ivy Treatment

Re: Turkey areas
I have used that before and it didn't seem to make much of a difference for me. What works best for me is not touching it with anything and just take the pain of the itch. A lot of the medicines seem to actually spread it.
