Re: washington world record elk
Love to see the specifics...doesn't look anything over 360 to me, if that, no length on the points.
Oh, well, still awesome pics, and I hope the kid is the one who took it!

Re: washington world record elk
I'd be interested in the story also. I've got a 327, and this one doesn't look 90 inches larger. Who knows though, pictures are decieving. One of my antelope looks freakishly huge, but in actuality its only 15 1/8.

Re: washington world record elk
Holy Smokes!. That is a tremendous bull. The Bull is amazingly wide. If that Kid is close to 5ft that bull is 5ft wide, that is 60 points. I would say the main beams were at least as long as wide. Thats another 120, plus the tip to tip which is also your greatest spread, another 120. Thats 300. Great symetry so I don't see big deductions, 7X7 on the points. The bull has mucho mass so all you circumfrance measurements are going to be big. 417 is probably gross from an inexperienced measurer but from the Pic it looks better thatn the 400 bull in the ODFW HQ.

While that is a nice bull with some interesting mass and webbing, I don't think it will even gross score 400 points before deductions.

Just perused B&C and P&Y websites...nothing there?
I'd love to believe you, it would look great to have a real big boy come from the Pacific NW.

Re: washington world record elk
He would gross 365 maybe , The key to a great bull is good thirds and overall-point length, which this bull has very poor of both. The picture of the bull on the tailgate puts the whole thing in more perepective. the bull has descent mass which will help a little and it does have a 400 class frame but the point length is just not there.
I really dont think it would be much over 350
Still a brute though!!!!!

Hard to tell the actual size from a picture. Here is the Pope and Young Book Looks possible to me that this bull is comparable to the one Chuck Adams shot. Either way it is a great bull. Congrats to the hunter who shot it.

Re: washington world record elk
B&C WORLD'S RECORDS ELK WORLD'S RECORDS TYPICAL AMERICAN ELK
SCORE: 442 5/8
LOCATION: White Mts., AZ
HUNTER: Alonzo Winters
OWNER: Alan C. Ellsworth
DATE: 1968
KEY MEASUREMENTS:
Length of main beam: Right 56 2/8 - Left 56 2/8
Inside spread: 47 4/8
Circ. of smallest place between 1st & 2nd points: Right 11 - Left 10 2/8
Number of ponts: Right 6 - Left 7
If thats the case I am very confused??? Those pictures claim to be the offical new world record? pope and young world record is 409. why is the such a different measurement. The elk in the pic does measuer 417 it is not up for debate that is the official score but why is there such a differance. between p&Y and B& C

Re: washington world record elk
I just don't see this bull going more than 360. I see lots of deductions and he's got nothing for G5s. He's big, definetly a trophy of a lifetime, but he doesn't have what it takes to score that well.
Just my $0.02...
I get P&Y quarterly newsletters. I'll check back but I don't remember anything coming from WA with a score like that.

It may just be camera angles and such, but the antlers look different between the 2 pictures. Check out the brow tines and the royal point on the elk's left side???

Re: washington world record elk
Royal is 6 x 6, Imperial is 7 x 7, and Monarch is 8 x 8.
Something that kinda cracked me up. I was reading about the up-and-coming Pennsylvania Elk Herd. They say a 12 point is a royal, 14 point is an Imperial, and 16 or better is a Monarch. Well, I guess it is Whitetail country, but something about adding all points just rubs me wrong. Like they're trying to make it as big as they can.

Re: washington world record elk
They had this rack at he Central Oregon Sportsmens Show a couple of weekends ago. At least I think it was. The sign said it was a possible new world record shot last year in Washington. If it is the same elk, it was HUGE. It was definetly One of the widest racks I have ever seen. I believe it won't be Officialy listed as the new world record until they score it at one of their Official banquets they have every two years or something like that.
Anyways, what a bull, and what a lucky kid.

I talked with a guy that claims that the guy who shot it was his brother-in-law it was shot near cle-elum <SP.> any way it looks as though the kid didn't shoot it. but was involved in the hunt. I am going to get more details. I'll pass it on.
