Default Prince of Wales black bear

Looking for information on hunting spring bears on Prince of Wales Island. A friend and I are going in May of this year and would love to hear from someone who has been there and done that.

all i know is there is a lot of them. we went up there three years ago fishing in july and ran into 5 bear and two cubs in a five day period. i wouldn't think it would be too dificult to find some bears, they were all in the creeks looking for the fish. have a good time!

If he takes a skiff he can hunt the grass flats at the ends of the coves. I never hunted the POW road system for bear so this is about all I can tell you. There is lots of bear. Try the grass flats at Exchange Cove.

It's a good hunt. I liked the grass flats. We stocked several very large bears and had two spoted for days that would have been way into the books. One had a very bad rub on it's side and the other was a bad deal with one of the party members sneaking over to the bear after we agreed to rest it for a day. He is no longer a party member!
We saw several in the 7 foot range, and many fat 6 footers. There was this large fat perfect sow that was very close to 7 feet, she had two older cubs, it would have been legal, but we watch her for three days and enjoyed the family fights.
We were going back this spring until hunting partner books a brown bear hunt this fall. But, heading down to shoot some pigs and rats in CA in a couple of weeks, so that will have to do for the spring hunts this year.
