Default Dog Whinning

I have a 2 year old britt. When I leave from work his starts off with this terrible whinning. It only last a few minutes. I just bought a condo, and can't have him doing this. Is there any device out there that will help quite him down that does not shock him???

I have raised Britt,s my entire life.
the pup (3year old)I have now will howl like a opera singer if I leave her in a car .
This last November I drove to Portland for a T.A. meeting. The motel didnt take pets . I figured no problem. It was 3:30 A.M. I was having a real strange dream that there was a police siren going off in my head. I woke to realize it was my dog. She was in the parking lot ,in the back of my truck, and one level down.Howling her head off.The entire motel herd her . I went out and slept the rest of the morning in the truck.
This is the only dog Ive had that will do this . She just cant be without her family.Hi ho. id. painter

In addition to the electronic bark-collar that shocks the dog, they also make several others. One, I believe it's called a clicker, sends out a high pitched "click" when activated. It's strictly an annoyance to the dog and is supposed to distract them from what they were doing. Whether it will be sensitive enough to pick up the whining I don't know, but I believe there are some that can be adjusted for that.

Bottom line is, the dog loves you and doesn't like being left alone while you go out and have fun (I know, you're working but he doesn't understand that).

Good luck to you AND your dog.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">A two way radio - talk to him on your FRS radio and tell him to be a good pup. Used to work with my old Lab when she was a pup. Or get a playmate for the dog. Lots of excercise will help too. He just wants to be with you is all, let him meet the neighbors and get to be friends with them. As long as they know he will stop soon they probably will not care much.

Get him familiar with the neighbors that way when they talk to him it will be a voice that he is used to. Also it will educate the neighbors on the dog that he just wants someone to play with and that he is not just a terrible noise maker. If you just moved he is in unfamiliar settings and that may be adding to the problem. When you leave take him out and leave him with something that will help remind him that this is now home. When we moved we went back and the new folks let us take some plants and wood chip from the play fort. The new plants helped but the wood chips were the ticket. She would lay on them all day and we never had another problem. Hopefully these ideas that worked for us will also work for you if they are possible in your situation.

We usually hide a couple of treats around the house before we leave (while one of us has him outside doing his business). As soon as we say our goodbyes, our 7-month-old golden retriever goes off looking for them.

When we leave him in the car for longer than an hour, we leave him a rawhide chew or a pig ear to chew on. This keeps him occupied. We usually return to find him asleep on the seat.

I recently had the same problem with my 6yr Vizsla. She whinned, howled and tryed to jump the fence until I got home. For her it was just an adjustment to the new environment "new house", neighborhood. I talked with all my neighbors to let them know it would hopefully only be temporary. They would give me updates on her if she got loud, eventually she adjusted. took about 6mos!!!!! good luck,

"We purchased 8 small fat dogs for the party to eat. The natives not being fond of selling their good fish, compels us to make use of dog meat for food, the flesh of which the most of the party have become fond of, from the habit of using it for some time past."
