Default Camo Questions

I just started duck hunting last year, and I have just recently bought a DB for fishing. And my question is,is it possible to hunt out of a DB, and does anybody have a blind that they know of or have used for a DB. It is painted blue right now, so I am going to have to camo it. The places I am going to be hunting with it are up by Scappoose Bay, up in Clatskaine, and Sauvie Island. But I don't know what kind of camo job to use, and I have been looking around, and have seen over 50 boats painted in different ways. Another thing, I also need to buy colthing and by hunting those places, what kind of a camo shade should I use? Any help would be greatly apperciated.

I agree with blue tip on the camo. I would suggest you go with what you like the looks of. If you plan on hunting the sloughs, I would go with the real tree or mossy oak. In all reality as long as your camo isn't completely wrong for shades and colors of your cover, i.e. yellow corn for dark flooded trees, the camo's pattern matters far less then keeping your head down and keeping a low profile. I have taken some pretty clueless friends hunting and all they want to do is keep thier heads up and watch the birds. Our faces don't seem bright to us, but its like a spotlight to the birds. Told them several times to keep thier heads down and I got to the point of almost screaming at them to knock off the gauking, but hey, I promissed I would take them out. Not that they would get birds

About your drift boat. If you feel its stable, I say hunt out of it. I hunt out of my kayak. I don't shoot straight to my left or right since I'm not that flexable, but I take passing shots and have never felt in danger. I do always have my life jacket on though. Guess it helps I surf and fish in it as well. Just go with a base green on your boat and then some camo netting and you can add leaf or cattail details if you want. The lightest color goes on first, then you work darker shapes on top.

Thanks you guys for the information, it will really help me. Another I would like to know, how should I repaint the DB? Do I need special paint (marine paint), do I need to sand off the paint already on the DB? Thanks for all the replys.

i have used a drift boat to get us to the spots to duck hunt, but not hunt out of it. they are usually too wobbly for me. we usually tie it to the bank a little way away from us and cover it with camo netting. any drab, non reflective paint will work. as for your own camo, i like the mossy oak patterns that are available now. you can use the camo in all sorts of hunting situations unlike some of the camo patterns like the corn look or cattails. good luck
