Re: Bull elk battle(pics)
Amazing power. I bet either one could mow down my saddle horse.
They look to be well matched, alot of similar horn traits too.
Thanks SP

Good call "bloodNtheboat"! I was thinking they looked familiar, but then I remembered the pics from last year of the bulls that were locked together and standing in water.

Re: Bull elk battle(pics)
Way cool, I had that happen this year not 100 yards from my tree stand. Without a doubt the most violent thing I have ever witnessed. I thought for sure I would going to have my tag filled my one of them killing the other. God darn tree stand... could not get out in time, besides I was so awe struck the thought of getting down took me a minute or two.

Re: Bull elk battle(pics)
Pictures don't do any justice to this. If you ever see a coupled closely matched wapiti goin at it you will know the full power and muscle of an elk. If you ever get to see something like this with your own eyes you will then understand why it is so hard to discribe. I have seen this twice hunting the coast and all I can say is that is an awsome experience. Those that have seen will understand what I am saying.
Thanks for sharing these photos. Hunting for me has been over for 17 days now and I have been having the shakes and cold sweats for about the last 16 and a half days. This kinda helped calm things down just a tad.

Not to mention all the bugling/squealling/grunting/bellows/etc that those massive critters manage to emit during battle.

Re: Bull elk battle(pics)
Those are awesome! A couple years ago I remember seeing a picture of spring-time where someone came accross two dead bulls. They were horn-locked. One broke the others neck and then could not free himself. They were both found still partially covered with snow. Scavengers hadn't gotten to them yet! The pure power of their duals is awesome!

Just guessing here, but from looking at the pics I imagine they were shot with a high dollar digital SLR?

Re: Bull elk battle(pics)
I killed a 330 bull locked up with an equal size bull like that in Idaho 2001 bowhunting. I was stalking the herd bull we nicknamed "ole dad" when this other bull came charging in, they instantly locked up not 40 yards in front of me. At one point the bulls hooked a small snag 8-10 feet long and started dragging it by it's roots. I basically ran with the bulls until they went back to a back and forth shove match. I didn't really care which one I shot since they were both big 6's. I moved up to 20 yards and drew on the bull that was in the open and broadside. I was just about ready to release on the bull when he lunged forward into the other bull. I let down, focused, drew and shot without thinking. I drilled him but they kept fighting. I looked down to knock another arrow and as I looked back up I had to take off running because "ole dad" was chasing the bull I had stuck right at me. They ran by me at 10 feet. My bull ran 80 yards and tipped over. My partner killed an almost identical bull the day before over a waterhole. Whenever I see pictures of bulls fighting I automatically go back to that day.
