Default Lab Clubs???

I was wondering if there are any lab hunting clubs in the vancouver area. I found one but there isn't any contact info just a name. I have a 16 week old black lab, that is retrieving, he will sit when told and will come when called. When i feed him he will sit and stare at it untill i tell him he can eat. But i really do not know what i am doing. Everything he has learned i did on my own and a few tricks from my dad. I would like to find a retriever club to join so Scout gets out with other dogs and maybe somebody can show me a few things that i am not doing, or i am doing wrong with him. He is a great pup and i want him to be able to hunt. I had 2 frozen mallards and the first one he brought back the first time i threw it, i wish i would have had the camera out. He retreived the wings so many times the sock that i put them in was torn open in 3 days. Still have one left and i would like to get him into the water more than i have had him. We have a pond on my property but there are some snags in it. Any info would help.

Thanks,
Chris

big-tule,i would find a pro in your area and ask him where the nearest retriever club is,that is a good place to start, also look at getting tri-tronics book, even if you don't plan on using an e-collar it is filled with tons of info.sounds like you want to do this the right way,it is a very rewarding thing to train your own dog,i train labs for a living and it's awesome to start with a 7 week old pup and look at him a year later and say wow will you look at that.find someone that has trained dogs and knows what he/she is talking about then glue yourself to them thats what i did and now i'm making a living at doing what i love......any more questions, feel free to e-mail me..................DAVE...........fishinpoor

Check out the "retriver picnic event" thread. Their will be people there from a number of clubs. You will be able to work your dog with real birds. It should be a great learning experience for you and your dog.

OK here we go. Many of the local retriever performance clubs and contacts are found at AKC.ORG.
The ones in the Portland metro area that have " picnic or practice" events are:
Oregon Retriever Trial Club
Oregon Hunting Retriever Club
Rose City Trial Club (maybe)
Two others a little further south are
Salem Retriever Trial Club
Greater Pacific Northwest Retriever Trial Club
a new one, Ankeny Club or something.
If you know one , you pretty much become aware of the rest. I have listed the Salem club on another post, If you e-mail me I can get you in contact with the others or give me a number and I can call you and answer questions.

I think the dead flyers club fits....
Our moto could be if it flies it dies...
And even if it doesn't it dies also...

I was wondering what kind of clubs you guys use on your labs. I used to take the barrel off my shotgun, but I bent it once

(sorry)
