Default Hunters Ed

Many here have been through the class a time or two maybe more. My delema is that my son and I have decided not to return to our class. The final straw came when the instructor started to argue the law with another parent. When the parent asked about the instructors info he stated that"I AM AN INSTRUCTOR AND I THINK I MIGHT KNOW A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE LAWS AND REGULATIONS THAN YOU DO." With that the other parent produced the hunting synopsis and read the law to the instructor under the prohibited headings. The instructor then stated that" I BELIEVE THAT YOUR ARE MISINTURPRETING THE LAW IN THIS CASE."

Now I maybe out of wack here but I was always under the understanding that prohibited was pretty clear this action is illegal. Also I was to the thinking that hunter education instructors should not be arguing over the printed laws with and person especially a student in their class young or old. This would have been the fourth time attending one of these classes in various areas around the west side and so far for me this is an isolated incident.
I was also under the thinking that the instructors would be some of the formost people on the law.

Has anyone else and any conflict like this and to whose attention do I bring it to I called the odfw and no on there seemed to know who to talk to about this problem?

Any comments or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Kinda sittin her wondering what to do about this.

West side of the Cascades and would still like some more feed back. Looking for options and possible solutions for when I do get a hold of the right person.

Inspite of this I still belive that this is a very good class for all hunter regaurdless of age.

Thanks for your comments if you have any.

Without getting into specifics that may disclose who the instructor was, could you please let us know what the issue was? IE: what the instructor was referring to and which prohibited activity was recited?

Personally, I am aware of a few potentially confusing areas in the regs. With only a brief review of the regs I can see how someone may misunderstand what is legal and what is not.

Is it possible this was one of those issues?

The Canby Rod and Gun Club will be holding hunter education classes starting Monday March 1st. The classes are run two weeks on three days a week and a Saturday live fire on the rifle range. The class is run by four to five instructors that have been giving the class for quite some time. We have always heard positive feedback regarding the class. The Canby Gun Club pays for the class including the live fire rounds and targets. So there is no fee charged to any students. For more info please visit their we site at www.canbyrodandgun.com and go to calendar of events. Canby Gun Club Homepage

I will get into more secifics later this evening at home. First and formost I believe this to be an isolated incident. Also I am not looking to cause trouble for the program or the instructor that is why I have not and will not mention any names. I believe this to be very important training for our young and green hunters also I think it should be manditory for anyone who wishes to hunt in Oregon.

Check in later this evening for the specifics and more information. The more feedback we can get the more ideas I can use when I can get ahold of the program director.

Thanks
