We drew Spring Bear Tags there last year. We hunted around McGraw Lookout. We saw plenty of bear, most at 800 plus yards.
Not being an expert, my read on the spring bear is to find an area and wait for them to move into the open. They were all located about half way up, or half way down the canyon, depending on where you access them.
As for Jet Boating, I'm told the water is pretty big there this time of the year. We were talked out of that option last year.
Good Luck,

BuzzerBaby....

Did you take a bear last year? How many did your party take? What size? Was it a worthy hunting adventure (would you go again?)

Thanks,

Mark

Talked to the bio. over there last summer about elk. We also asked a couple of questions about bear. He would be very helpful. The snow pack may be your biggest problem.

Hello, I have run the Snake River in Hells Canyon from the confluence of the Salmon up river to Granite rapid more than a dozen times. Right now the water is very flexible. To see the current weather conditions and river flows if your are interested in boating there, go to westernwhitewater.org then wet links. From there you will see WEATHER SITE, and RIVER INFORMATION. Pick Pittsburg Landing and it will tell you the current weather. On the RIVER INFORMATION go to about the 4th category down, Idaho Power Sites. Most guys in Boise, ID. look at the Johnson Bar gauge which is the last one on Idaho Powers list. You will see this time of year it changes rapidly. If you want to camp on the river there are several nice places on the Oregon side of the river between Pittsburg Landing and Granite Rapids. I am not sure how much you really want me to explain to you so if you would like to talk about it more just call me. My name is Brian, 208-573-0542.. We have seen some of the most pretty bears ever seen. A lot of blonde and red bears. If you would like to run it for a scouting trip and need someone to show you around call me and I will personally take your or bring your boat and we will show the lines through the rapids. As one of the gentleman wrote, some of the water is fairly large, however, I have run all of it except for Wildsheep in my 21' single. Call me I would be more than happy to tell you more.
