Re: Am I a cheapskate?
Welcome back, Kid. Haven't heard from you in a long time, and it's good to see you posting.
As for your delimma, I dunno. I've never actually considered NOT hunting.
Really, I hunt almost year-round for something; starting in September for geese and doves, and going through July for sage rats. Then the regular seasons for deer and elk. Ducks go through January and permit goose season is still on. Heck, I was coyote hunting yesterday and can't wait to get back out. Oh yeah, I almost forgot turkeys in April.
....anyway, you get the idea from my perspective. Hope you do buy a license and hope you get your draw. We need hunters to keep the sport alive.

Re: Am I a cheapskate?
Without having to purchase a license, all the PETA, Audubon and Humane Society fringe types could apply for lots of tags for not much money, then never buy a license and use the tag. Without the license fees, no ODFW.
That's one thought.

Re: Am I a cheapskate?
I know a lot of elderly gentlemen who still not only buy their hunting license, but tags as well. They haven't hunted in years and have no intention to, but they know the money goes towards wildlife management, and as bad as things are, without their 'donations', it would be even worse...
Yes, you're a cheapskate!

It keeps a lot of PETA types from applying.

Re: Am I a cheapskate?
They tried that (no pay until you got your tag) in the midwest a number of years ago. The anti-hunter crowd all went out and applied. The tags were then reserved but low and behold, they never went to pay for them. Tags went unused and a lot of deer were saved from the hunters gun. That program didn't last long.

Re: Am I a cheapskate?
1.) As though it actually needs to be said again...the governor has not and cannot take license money and spend it on schools. There are several posts on LIG dealing with this.
2.) Rajneeshees taste like a cross between spotted owl and California condor.

Re: Am I a cheapskate?
Yeah, you are a cheapskate, but thats beside the point... We all are. My 8 year old son said "hunting is getting to be a rich man's sport" This was after spending 45 bucks for a combo license. Kids really know whats going on!

Re: Am I a cheapskate?
By buying a hunting license you are helping to bring federal tax dollars to Oregon. Taxes paid on firearms and ammunition are sent to states according to the number of hunting licenses they sell.
