Default icom M2A handheld ?

Pup needed...

Anyone use an icom m2a for a backup? It takes AA batts, which I think would be better for a backup in the pocket rather than one that sits on a recharger. Opinions on AA vs charger-base?

I have an icom M2A.
I run the rechargable battery and keep the AA side packed with fresh batteries all ready to go.
And I carry spare AA bats.
I don't need a radio I can't use because the battery is dead!
Not sayin' I ain't a pup also.

I use the M2A as well, and I threw my rechargeable battery away when it died - after about a year of service. I just use the AA tray now, because like was said, I can swap those out in a heartbeat and the last thing you need is a backup that doesn't work.

Everything else is AA too, from my handheld GPS to my digital camera to my headlamp. Keep it simple.

Same AA works great and I carry one of those multi packs of batts from Costco.

Great, thanks! I almost have the prudent basics now - still need an ACR epirb (aquafix w/gps).

Great unit, and easy to use. I was talking to Puffin last year from Depoe when he was 12 miles out. Loud and clear on an overcast day.

The AA battery tray, along with ease of use is what swayed me to purchase it.

Peace, Tom
