Another newbie from North of the border!!!
I have loved fishing one way or another all my life.I worked Commercial fishing boats out of Vancouver BC in my 20s- early30s but it was to hard to make a living when the wife and kids arrived so I started carpentry. In 1992 I ended up in Whistler and worked so much that the next ten years are a blur other then getting right into full contact flyfishing and eventually being a parttime guide.(They wanted to give me $$$ to go heli and float plane fishing).I eventually burned out of the Whistler thing and moved back to the Vancouver area and was looking for a 12' 20 horse settup for crabbing etc. But the better half would not get into one and said" we need a bigger boat than that" So we stared off with a 16' 40 horse side console welded aluminum boat. We had good times off of the Fraser river crabbing and catching some nice Springs too!Sockeye was open in the Fraser that year and we destroyed a few props learning the ropes( we even managed to catch some Sockeyes as well). We took our littler rig up Van. Island to fish Malcolm island by Port Hardy and had a blast catching Springs and releasing Cohoes all day long.We found a piece of property up there so we partnered up and bought a little chunk of paradise. It was a no brainer that we needed a bigger boat so searching around and crunching numbers picked out the boat that we would drive by and drool over never ever thinking one was in our future. So one piece at a time I put our rig together.Ended up with a 22' Hewes Seanner et 150 yammie 4st 9.9 high thrust.Working on the last addition now.Getting a radar-rocket launcher rack fabricated with some outrigger poles that can be installed for dragging tuna gear and a radar unit at the boat show up here this Feb.(Thinking about a JRC any input appreciatted). This is a great site and I hope that I can contribute to it someday somehow.Fishing up island this year was incredible with new the rig,but the Westcoast is calling me and with the help of the Salty Dogs I might trick up an Albie or two and be part of some great stories and make some new friends!

Re: Another newbie from North of the border!!!
Welcome aboard. I put a JRC on my boat and love it. I have never used any other type so I don't have anything to compare to but it was the best thing I did other than buy a new boat.

Re: Another newbie from North of the border!!!
Thanks Tracker!! I stumbled on to this site a while ago and actually watched one of your videos first thing that got my pulse racing.I did a lot of reading and was so impressed with the openess of the forum and the good will(reminds me of the shipmates I had on the commercial boats).I saw a posting about tuna on Sportfishing BC and responded and 5-Salt Fever on that board sent links to Awsome Tuna gear and settup info on IFISH. I read a string about the Swiftsure bank and I thought I might have two cents to offer so I registered and here I am full on can't wait to Eat a beating Tuna heart!!!!

Again welcome! I am sorry though to be at least in part a channel for your travel to the darkside. For upon catching tuna for your first time, all those other fish you thought were fun to catch become less so. :depressed:

Re: Another newbie from North of the border!!!
First of all welcome, this is a great place. I will be up your way in June. I have the pleasure of fishing with some other dogs off the board. Slipknot, Hammer down we will be at point duval. I fished at Echo bay two years ago, the fishing was terrible, but the scenery was wonderful. Again welcome aboard.
