Default Praire Dog/Gopher Hunting

Hey all..

Well my buddies have put me on point for finding a spot to go do some dog/gopher shooting..
We are thinking Southern Idaho(boise area) or Montana (Dillon/Beaverhead County) areas..

Anybody else got some good general areas that they would be willing to share...
One friend checked into a "guide" that wants 750 per person, and states 500 shots a day....but we really dont want to pay that much for shooting critters.

Any ideas? Suggestions? will be mostly 22 work, and 7.62x39 shooting...

Thanks!

Why don't you just go out to Paulina or Burns and shoot sage rats? Ground squirrels...most ranches will welcome, but there are a few here and there that charge $25 a day or so...

head down to kfalls, the sage rats were out last week in the nice sun,as soon as the weather breaks they will be out in force, alot of farmers will let you shoot just for asking.bring lots of ammo,a brick a day is not uncommon.

Going down to kfalls this spring break, and staying with a friend that lives there. He's got lot's of access fields ,and those dogs are fun to hunt. If you call it hunting, But it is still fun.

Hey Everyone..

Thanks for the advice, I will keep those places in mind, however we where thinking ID/MT for central reasons...would have friends coming from over that direction...but if I cant seem to find anything else out we might head out to that area!

Thanks for the info!

Head east out of Boise. The area around Mountain Home is crawling with rats.

Both, but not hard to get permission to hunt. Lots of area right off I-84 full of Rats and Yotes.

If you dont want to go that far you can find tons of squirrels near Burns, more specifically near Crane. Almost all will be on private lands but getting access is as easy as stopping in a local cafe, asking around a bit, and shooting where they tell you to.

Late march is always a good time, then off and on through summer depending on how often they are cutting.
