Go hunt Alaska (hows that for advice ) The bulls are bigger, don't need a guide, and you don't have to have your gun registered at the border.

I'm with WRO. I think you can do it better and cheaper in Alaska. A fly-out, drop-off hunt would be a fine way to do it. There are several large Caribou herds in Alaska. I haven't hunted them all, but could give you some suggestions. In general, the cheapest way to do one of these hunts is to fly commercial to the closest airport in the area you want to hunt (Iliamna for instance)...then fly to your destination a short distance in a bush plane which is more expensive than a commercial flight. Caribou are often failry easy to find and take. The hard part will be judging a trophy sized animal. No kidding...until you take a few they ALL look big.

I took a good Mountain Caribou in the MacKenzie Mountains of NWT with NWT Outfitters Ltd. I really think Duane did a good job. I actually visited him during the summer and he was gracious enough to put me up for a night. The poitives: (this was in 1993) They offered a 9 day hunt, It was a good camp and the guides did a nice job with the meat and capes, the price was $2300( a good price!, we were well taken care of with meals, tent, etc.Good Laker, bull trout and grayling fishing. However, make sure the guides know what you want, how you want to hunt, what you expect from them. Our guide knew his stuff and he regularly hunts with Chuck Adams (they got a Pope & Young World Record a couple years later) but he made a couple comments that indicated that they were not going to work quite as hard since we were not going to be big tippers. Obviously, we weren't! You can see the pictures on www.superslamcountdown.com and email me if you want to talk more about it.
